☕ Pour one out for KLVN

September 14, 2026 · — Laura Tsutsui

Happy Monday morning! Summer is winding down but you will find me standing beside a grill for as long as possible through the good weather. Thankfully, you can find great barbecue around town, good weather or not.

City Cast Pittsburgh contributor Colin Williams tells host (and born-and-bred Southerner!) Megan Harris where to satisfy barbecue cravings.

PA Court Could Reshape Overdose Death Prosecutions

There have been hundreds of state prison sentences against people who supplied drugs that led to fatal overdoses. But some families and advocates say these cases target fellow drug users rather than high-level dealers. Now the state Supreme Court is deciding whether to add legal protections for defendants who acquired and used drugs alongside a person who dies of an overdose. [Spotlight PA]

Local Universities Flunk Free Speech … Again

Pitt, CMU, and Duquesne all landed failing grades in a new report ranking the state of free speech on college campuses. Pitt scored worst in the region and ranked No. 205 out of 261 schools surveyed nationwide. Only 36 scored a C grade or better.

  • A new CMU policy bans certain types of speech on The Fence, which has long been a space for free expression. Last year, ahead of a visit from President Donald Trump for an AI summit, an anonymous group painted “No rapists on campus” on the fence. The message was later painted over by staff and led the school to form a working group to consider how the fence should operate. [🔒 Post-Gazette]

The Larimer coffee lab says its last day of service is Thursday, or “until we run out of coffee.” This is the second closure on Hamilton Avenue this summer after Goodlander Cocktail Brewery shuttered its taproom in June — though the farewell posts hinted the company isn’t saying goodbye forever. Now-retired mill manager Don German organized the wildlife cameras that captured Rosie’s fall. He helped retrieve her and wrote the book about her rescue and recovery 🦅
