🚫 AI limits in campaign ads?

September 11, 2026 · — Laura Tsutsui

We made it to Friday. How are your acting skills?

A local casting agency is hiring background actors for a new film. “Butler” recreates a local journalist’s experience in 2024 when someone tried to assassinate then-candidate Donald Trump. It’s being filmed in Beaver County(?), and that’s not the only reason we have questions.

City Cast Pittsburgh host Megan Harris, executive producer Mallory Falk, and our creative producer Boen Wang — in his podcast debut! — take on this “contained thriller” in today’s Neighbors-only bonus segment. Join today to get access to extra pod content, ticket giveaways, special events, and more.

What's CITY Talking About

Whose Side Is Fetterman On?

In a minute-long video, PA Democrat John Fetterman introduced fellow Senator and Republican Dave McCormick at the GOP’s midterm convention this week, reinforcing what many interpret as Fetterman’s intentional isolation from the Democratic party. Fetterman praised McCormick as “my great friend” while calling himself a “common-sense Democrat” who rejects “extremes in socialism and that anti-American way of life.” [CBS News / AP]

  • Will he switch parties? Fetterman called a recent WSJ report outlining his lackluster response to constituents a “hit piece” but says he’s committed to the Dems. Meanwhile we’re waiting for alleged tea from former staffers when the Senate returns to session next week. [City Cast Pittsburgh]

Regulating AI in Political Ads

A new Allegheny County Council bill would require candidates to disclose their use of AI-generated content in campaign materials. The proposal doesn’t outright ban AI, which sponsors say could violate the First Amendment, and focuses on images, video, and audio that's meant to appear realistic. If approved, it would take effect in January. [TribLive]

New Field and Food at Acrisure Stadium

The Steelers swapped out their much-maligned Kentucky bluegrass field for Tahoma 31 Bermudagrass sod. Lawn-heads (is that a thing?) might know the new grass “deliver[s] superior traction and divot resistance.” Also new this year are concession items like the Yinzer Wrap (filled with grilled kielbasa and mini pierogi) and Three Little Pigs (think pigs in a blanket but with bratwurst, Italian sausage and capicola instead of mini hot dogs) 🤤

  • The first regular season game is this Sunday. Pro-tip for non-football fans: add the schedule to your calendar and run errands during games. It’s the quietest you'll ever find Giant Eagle. [🔒 Post-Gazette / Acrisure Stadium]

Buy a Market Square Building

The Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation is selling Downtown mixed-use buildings after the co-founder says the organization “did our job” in saving and restoring them. One building is home to apartments and the Heinz Healey Men’s Apparel store. The other is anchored by Emerson’s restaurant. The listings do not include prices, but are “subject to offer.” [🔒 Business Times / SVN]
