What's CITY Talking About

PA House Reins in Utility Company Profits

State lawmakers passed a bill that would put a cap on how much utility companies can profit from customers while also giving PA residents a tax cut on electricity. Supporters say the measure will lower electric bills, while critics argue that limiting profits could discourage investment into the state’s energy infrastructure. The legislation is headed for a Senate vote. [Public Source]

NHL Approves Sale of Penguins

After owning the Penguins for just four years, the NHL's Board of Governors gave Fenway Sports Group the greenlight to sell the team to Hoffmann Family Companies. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but a 2025 report shows the Penguins were last valued at $1.75 billion. [KDKA]

Billions Slated for Transportation Projects

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission will invest $4.7 billion over the next four years for roads, bridges, transit systems, and other infrastructure projects in the 10-county area. While spending is up about $500 million from the previous plan, only about 15% of the funding is dedicated to new projects. Some local efforts include flooding remediation, traffic mitigation, and new bus lanes. [Post-Gazette]

Major Changes Coming To County Council?

Allegheny County voters will likely vote on two ballot measures in November that would expand County Council’s authority. If passed, one referendum would eliminate a charter-mandated cap on the legislature's operating budget. Another would allow Council to receive county-funded benefits and hire staff members for each district. [WESA]

♓ Pisces

Riverview: Pisces’ whimsical and romantic nature should place them in the Perry Hilltop fortress, surrounded by nature and serenity, like at Riverview pool.

♈ Aries

Ammon: Competitive, active Aries can play water polo and soak in the vibes of the Hill District at Ammon pool!
