🏖️ When pools are opening
June 1, 2026 · — Francesca Dabecco
Happy June, Pittsburgh. It’s really starting to feel like summer! The Three Rivers Arts Festival will be setting up in Downtown on Friday; Allegheny County pools and spray parks are set to open this Saturday, and city pools are close behind; and I.C. Light has a new berry drink on the shelves, ready to quench your thirst!
Cheers to that! Find more things to do in June on today’s City Cast Pittsburgh podcast — and be on the lookout for a special monthly guide send in your inbox tomorrow 😉

What's CITY Talking About
Your Electric Bill Is Going Up
The state's Public Utility Commission announced that electric rates will increase starting today. The exact amount depends on your supplier. Use these tips to reduce your bill, like closing blinds, limiting appliance use, and monitoring your thermostat. [Axios Pittsburgh / KDKA]
Pgh Water Continues Line Replacement
PGH2O is investing $32 million into replacement projects in Bloomfield, Central Lawrenceville, Shadyside, and Highland Park. The project is part of the utility’s goal to replace residential lead service lines system-wide by the end of 2027; it estimates that 83% has been completed so far. [PGH2O]
POGOH Is Expanding to the Suburbs
Pittsburgh’s bike share program is adding stations outside the city limits, thanks to $1.5 million in federal transit money given to Allegheny County. POGOH is considering adding 17 stations in areas such as Millvale, Wilkinsburg, Edgewood, Swissvale, and Braddock. [Axios Pittsburgh]
- Did you know that POGOH offers accessible bicycles, too? Check out their open house at the Eliza Furnace Trailhead on June 7. [City Cast Pittsburgh]
Historic Hill District Building Gets A Boost
Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration is investing $4.52 million into Pittsburgh region community projects through the Main Street Matters program — including $1 million toward renovations at the Hill District’s New Granada Building. The money will fund a cafe, kitchen, theater, and lounge space on the first floor of the historic space. [🔒 Business Times]

Where Is It?

Let’s play a game! Where can you find this cute stationery?
🌟 Shout out to Theresa S., Natalie H., Molly G., Emma R., Kim C., Puja D., Emily G., Meg M., Vivian H., and Juliana W. for correctly guessing last week’s photo challenge ⬇️

Snag this strawberry matcha drink from Delanie’s Coffee in the South Side (or their second location in Shadyside). This refreshing beverage had me feeling all sorts of nostalgic for the strawberry milk I used to drink as a kid 🍓
Swing by for a seasonal special like the Almond Joy latte or cherry vanilla cold brew. When I stopped by the East Carson Street location, the garage-style door was open — providing a cool breeze and the perfect spot to people watch.
