What's CITY Talking About

Pirates Sign Griffin To Record Contract
Nineteen-year-old shortstop Konnor Griffin signed a nine-year, $140 million contract extension with the Buccos — a record deal for both the Pirates and a rookie player. It’s a big deal, since team owner Bob Nutting is notorious for not investing significantly in the players. This is only the second nine-figure contract the Pirates have given. The Point Fountain is Flowing Again
Our city’s iconic centerpiece normally doesn’t turn on until May, but the fountain made an earlier debut this year for the NFL Draft. Point State Park recently got a multimillion dollar makeover, including fresh landscaping, lighting upgrades, walkway repairs, and more. [KDKA]
City Raises Parking Fee During Draft
Street parking in Downtown and the North Side will be $5 per hour during the NFL Draft. Violators will face a $120 fine. Meanwhile, Rivers Casino is offering $500 four-day parking passes. [WTAE]

Pittsburgh is a ‘Rising Pizza Powerhouse’
Pizzaiolos from the Burgh had a huge presence at this year’s International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas, from the competition floor to judging rooms and demo stages. It’s no surprise — Post-Gazette food critic Hal B. Klein calls Pittsburgh a “pizza powerhouse.” He’s tasted his way through our region’s best slices and is sharing the reason for our recent boom.
