What's CITY Talking About
Shapiro Leads in PA Governor’s Race
Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro is ahead in the race, according to a recent Susquehanna Polling and Research survey, earning support from 58% of likely voters compared to Republican State Treasurer Stacy Garrity’s 36%. The majority of Shapiro’s supporters cite his job performance as the reason they're backing him, while most Garrity backers cite the fact that she's Republican or that Trump supports her. [TribLive]
County Jail Now Pays Incarcerated Workers
People who work while they’re incarcerated at Allegheny County Jail have begun being paid for performing tasks and taking classes. The Vocational Training Program pays $5 per day for jobs such as cooking and cleaning, and $2 for every class students attend as part of the jail’s reentry program. [90.5 WESA]

Kennywood's Open! (Almost)
When Kennywood opens for the season on April 18, a couple of beloved rides will be celebrating major milestones: The Whip turns 100, and Phantom's Revenge turns 25. How did a picnic grove on a hilltop turn into the amusement park we know and love today? And how do its stewards toe the line between preservation and modernization? Historian Mark Houser explains. Baseball Fields Get Boost
Pittsburgh received $600,000 in donations from Pirates Charities and the Pennsylvania Laborers District Council to upgrade city baseball fields. Funds will go towards new scorecards, better equipment, safety improvements, and more. [TribLive]

NFL Official Sues Over Discrimination
Robin DeLorenzo, one of the first women to officiate an NFL game, has filed a lawsuit alleging gender discrimination, harassment, and wrongful termination. - 🏎️ Dan B. wants to shout out Carnegie Mellon’s Carnival and buggy races, April 11 to 12. “Carnegie Mellon Buggy is a student competition where teams of five student athletes (the pushers) push an un-motorized vehicle (a buggy) containing a driver around a 0.84 mile course in a relay format where the vehicle serves as the baton. The buggy is built by students using the latest engineering techniques. It's a really exciting race to watch and there are all kinds of activities to do on campus afterwards — all open to the public.”
