What's CITY Talking About
Allegheny Valley Divided on ICE Cooperation
Oakmont council passed a resolution barring the borough from "engaging in enforcement of non-criminal immigration laws." This follows the high-profile arrest of Jose Flores, an Oakmont resident with no criminal record who is currently pursuing asylum.
- Meanwhile, just a few miles over, Springdale is cooperating with ICE. Residents spoke out against the borough’s ICE agreement at a recent public meeting after police turned asylum seeker Randy Cordova Flores over to federal agents following a traffic stop. Council members made no comment. [Public Source / TribLive]

City Approves New Solicitor, Planning Director
City Council approved two more of Mayor Corey O’Connor’s picks to head city departments. Lisa Zeidner Marcus will be the city’s top lawyer and Ivette Mongalo-Winston will lead city planning. Both were already serving the roles in acting capacity.
- Mongalo-Winston wants the city to salvage its controversial $6 million comprehensive plan, which is meant to guide development over the next 25 years. City Council is considering whether to seek outside funding to finish the plan. [TribLive / 🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]
Crosby Cuts Olympic Game Short
Sidney Crosby left the ice in the middle of Canada’s quarterfinal game against Czechia on Wednesday after taking a hit and sustaining a lower-body injury. His team went on to win, but it's unclear whether Crosby — Canada's captain — will be able to play again during the Olympics. [🔒 The Athletic]
