Crosby Named Team Captain for Canada
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will lead his home team in the Milan Olympics. Crosby was also captain for team Canada at the 2014 Olympics and won gold medals in both 2014 and 2010. Catch him face off against Czechia on Thursday, Switzerland on Friday, and France on Sunday. [NBC / Hockey Canada]
Parking Lot at the Old Wholey’s Site?
Developers want to create a public parking lot at the former Wholey’s warehouse site on Smallman Street — at least temporarily, until they make other plans. They previously proposed an office building for the property, but their permits expired and nothing has been constructed yet. The zoning board has 45 days to give a ruling. [NEXTpittsburgh]

Shapiro Asks PA To Regulate AI Chatbots
In an effort to shield kids from being harmed or misled by chatbots, Gov. Josh Shapiro is asking state agencies to develop regulations for technology like ChatGPT, Meta AI, and Gemini. It’s not yet clear how the state could enforce these protections or penalize companies who violate regulations. [WESA]
Diocese of Pittsburgh To Close Churches
The Diocese plans to close seven of eight churches in its Saint Joseph the Worker Parish next month, citing declining mass attendance and financial constraints. The churches are located in Braddock, Braddock Hills, Swissvale, Turtle Creek, Churchill, and Wilmerding. [TribLive]
PA Lawmakers Advance Cell Phone Ban
A bipartisan group of legislators in the state Senate passed a bill that would prohibit students from using cell phones during the school day. The policy has also received support from Gov.
