🐧 How Pittsburgh is ‘Heated Rivalry?’

January 15, 2026 · — Megan Harris

Hey neighbors. City Cast Pittsburgh podcast host Megan Harris here 👋 I’ve been helping out this week with all the Steelers news. Let’s take a breather, shall we?

City Cast contributor Colin Williams sent me this hot tip: there’s a bookstore in NYC right now trading used books for… a jar of pickles. I know it’s a gimmick, but this feels so Pittsburgh. What would stores take for tradesies here in the Steel City?

A Very Philadelphia Butter Sculpture

This year’s Pennsylvania Farm Show centerpiece honors the commonwealth’s role in our nation’s founding 250 years ago, showcasing the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross, and a few founding fathers signing the Declaration of Independence. The sculpture is made of 1,000 pounds of butter donated by Land O’Lakes in Cumberland County. [Pennsylvania Capital-Star]

‘Embarrassing’ AI Mistakes Infiltrate PA Courts

Filings in at least 13 Pennsylvania cases last year contained confirmed or implied AI "hallucinations," or fake citations, mostly filed by people acting as their own attorneys. University of Pittsburgh law professor David Harris says some form of censure may be needed, because AI threatens to "misshape the law by taking it in a direction that doesn't exist." [Spotlight PA]

  • Harris talked to us this week about the legal danger imposed by ICE agents in Pittsburgh, particularly for advocates hoping to shield people. [🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]

‘Heated Rivalry’ Star on Pro Athletes in His DMs

Actor Hudson Williams, who plays a character loosely inspired by Penguins centre Sidney Crosby, says he’s heard from a bunch of queer professional athletes who have not yet come out — mostly thanking him for depicting their experience on screen. [City Cast Pittsburgh / Them]

What To Do

Thursday, Jan. 15

Friday, Jan. 16

We’ll end where we started — with cautionary food tales from NYC. Wegmans stores in Brooklyn and Manhattan are storing biometric data on shoppers. Will our new Cranberry store do it, too? Something to watch for as the development takes shape 👀

Until next time!
