✋ O’Connor swears in

January 6, 2026 · — Francesca Dabecco

Good morning, Pittsburgh. I’m still thinking about the Steelers’ divine intervention on Sunday and the priest that blessed the end zone with holy water. (He even got a shoutout during Corey O’Connor’s inauguration 😆)

Do we think he’ll make a return for next Monday’s game against the Texans? 🏈🙏

What's CITY Talking About

Corey O'Connor and his family in City Hall
“You got a chance to finish the job daddy started but in your own wonderful and unique way,” Corey’s brother, Terry O’Connor, said in a speech. Their father, Bob O’Connor, was the 58th Mayor of Pittsburgh. (Courtesy of @coreyoconnorpa)

Corey O’Connor Becomes Mayor

O’Connor was sworn in as Pittsburgh’s 62nd mayor at Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland yesterday. In a short speech, he shared what motivated him to run for office, promising to focus on families and making Pittsburgh a place where young people can build their lives. “Opportunities for reimagining Pittsburgh are everywhere,” O’Connor said. City Paper Shuts Down After 34 Years

Block Communications, Inc. closed the alt-weekly, citing "the economic realities facing news organizations." BCI bought City Paper from the owner of the Butler Eagle in 2023; it also owns the Post-Gazette. Former staff started a fundraiser to support laid-off workers. [WESA / GoFundMe]

Photo location reveal: MuseumLab in Allegheny Center. (Francesca Dabecco / City Cast Pittsburgh)

This colorful gallery wall looks like it could be at the Warhol Museum, but it’s actually at the nearby MuseumLab on the North Side — a space operated by the Children’s Museum where kids can learn about tech and art.

It’s also a stunning event venue, popular for weddings and big parties. The MuseumLab is located inside the former Carnegie Free Library of Allegheny and has been beautifully restored to highlight original architecture like exposed brick walls, stunning archways, and tile flooring.

Know before you go: Admission to the MuseumLab is included with your ticket to the Children’s Museum.

🎉 New this year: The Children’s Museum is hosting collection events as part of their new “Year of Kindness” initiative. Every visitor who brings an item to donate to one of their drives will receive a free admission ticket for that day. In January, bring a nonperishable food item for the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank.

Anyone else watch “Heated Rivalry” over break? 🏒❤️‍🔥

The viral enemies-to-lovers story shares the sparks between two hockey players at the top of their games. It’s based on a book that got inspiration from fierce NHL rivalries — like the one between Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin 🤭 Warning: The series is very steamy!

We love a local connection … even if it’s a stretch!
