Look through these binoculars at August Wilson Park in the Hill District, and you’ll find a stunning view of Downtown Pittsburgh.

The park is named for the famed Pittsburgh playwright, best known for his series of 10 plays called the “American Century Cycle” — each set in a different decade of the twentieth century, weaving together Black history and culture. All but one take place in the Hill District.

The park also has a playground, basketball court, picnic tables, benches, and plaques displaying quotes from Wilson’s plays.

You can find his legacy preserved here — as well as at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center and the August Wilson House.
