What's CITY Talking About
Council Loosens Food Truck Rules
Food trucks and other mobile vendors can now set up longer and in more spaces all around the city, but there are caveats. They still can't operate within 150 feet of a brick-and-mortar business selling similar products unless they get permission. [TribLive]
New Amenities for Hazelwood?
Housing and retail may soon be allowed along a stretch of Hazelwood riverfront where railroads and a trash transfer facility have historically dominated. The proposal, which was just recommended by the planning commission, won’t limit the railroads, but they’re threatening legal action if it passes City Council. [Public Source]
- Why change now? City Councilor Barb Warwick called the area a “rat buffet.” [🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]
Local Polluters To Pay Higher Fees
Facilities that produce air pollution, like coke and steel plants, have to start paying more money to Allegheny County. Council voted to raise their permit fees, which help fund a program that monitors emissions and enforces clean air rules. [WESA]
