Leona’s Scoop Shop Opens in Bloomfield

It may not be ice cream season, but don’t let that stop you from visiting Leona’s new scoop shop on Penn Avenue. bottles on shelves at The Open Road

This might look like an ordinary shelf of alcohol, but it’s actually all zero-proof! If you’re looking for some sober options ahead of holiday gatherings, find these beverages at The Open Road on Penn Avenue in Garfield.

The shop is pouring over with colorful sober drinks — from seltzers and spirits to beers and wines. The Open Road is the country’s longest-standing nonalcoholic retailer, proving that Pittsburgh is more than just a booze-drinking town.

How to pick your non-poison: Owner Mel Babitz and the team can guide you through more than 400 options to find one that fits your taste. If you’re just going for flavor, try one of the beers, wines, spirits, or ready-to-drink options.

They also offer “functional” drinks. “Functional can mean anything from caffeine in coffee and tea products, to hemp products and everything in between,” Babitz says. “A lot of them are mood enhancing, whether it's uplifting and energizing for the daytime or wind-down and relaxing for the nighttime. Some of it is prebiotic, good for gut health.”
