Apartments, Grocery Proposed for the Strip

A New York-based developer wants to turn one of the Strip District’s last produce warehouses into 464 market-rate housing units and a grocery store. The proposed buildings at 21st and Railroad streets would also include a parking garage, courtyard, and pool. The developer will meet with the city’s planning commission later this month. [TribLive]

County Council Keeps Leg Shackles Ban

Allegheny County Council voted against overturning a ban on leg shackles at the county jail — a tactic outlawed by voters in a 2021 referendum. That referendum also limited the use of solitary confinement and barred restraint chairs and chemical agents like pepper spray. [WESA]

Klavon’s Headed for Sheriff’s Sale

Want to buy an iconic local ice cream parlor? Klavon’s in the Strip District is up for a sheriff’s sale Dec. 1. The shop first opened in 1923 and still has original features like a soda fountain, tin ceilings, and marble countertops. [Pittsburgh Magazine]
