Man Pleads Guilty To Governor’s Mansion Attack

PA resident Cody Balmer pleaded guilty to an attack on the governor’s mansion earlier this year. He’s been charged with attempted murder of Gov. Josh Shapiro, terrorism, arson, burglary, and other crimes; he was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison. [Associated Press]

PIT Can’t ‘Accommodate’ Noem Video

Pittsburgh International Airport told City Cast Pittsburgh “we do not have the assets to accommodate multimedia requests,” including a controversial new “public service announcement” intended for TV monitors positioned over security checkpoints at airports across the country. In it, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem blames Democrats for the federal government shutdown, and lots of airports are declining to play it. 🥯 Three Brothers Bagels Goes Mobile

The Glenshaw bagel shop is on a roll. Catch Three Brothers Bagels’ new food truck around town serving breakfast sandwiches, smash burgers, and more on hand-rolled sourdough bagels. Tip: stop in the brick-and-mortar from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for a dozen bagels at half-price. (They carry 13 varieties!)

☕ Arabica Robusta Pours in Homestead

After years without a coffee shop in the neighborhood, Homestead finally has some fresh brews with the addition of Arabica Robusta Coffee House on Eighth Avenue. Stop by for a latte or espresso made with their special “Homestead Blend” beans roasted by Commonplace Coffee.

🍺 Dancing Gnome Reopens Old Taproom

The Sharpsburg brewery closed its old digs when it opened a big production facility and taproom down the street, but now the original spot is back open with a new name and look. “Nine Two Five” serves house-made cocktails with spirits produced in PA and tasty bites from Blue Sparrow.

🔮 Library On Carson Gets Witchy

The South Side bar is hosting a supper club inspired by the classic Halloween book and film “Practical Magic” on Oct. 23. Look forward to a four-course dinner by candlelight and signature “Midnight Margaritas.”

🍸 Spirit Opens A Garden Bar

The next time you go to the Lawrenceville venue for a concert, dance party, or maker market, check out the refurbished third floor rooftop. There’s plenty of seating, making it a great spot to gather with friends for a cocktail or pizza at sunset.

Something fun before you go! The Frick Pittsburgh is opening the top two floors of the Clayton Mansion for tours starting Nov. 5.

Visitors will get a never-before-seen look at rooms and artifacts in this 19th-century Point Breeze mansion, the former home of industrialist Henry Clay Frick and his family.
