Pittsburgh has seen its share of catastrophe — flooding, fires, explosions, and even escaped monkeys. (Seriously. That’s happened here a surprising number of times.) 🙈

Shapiro Condemns Political Violence

At the 5th annual Eradicate Hate Summit in Pittsburgh, Gov. Josh Shapiro said U.S. leaders must denounce all forms of political violence, but some people “from the dark corners of the internet, all the way to the Oval Office, want to cherry-pick which instances of political violence they want to condemn.”

Pittsburgh Launches Anti-Discrimination Coalition

Nearly two dozen local organizations and businesses formed a new anti-hate alliance called Stand for All Pittsburgh. The coalition, which will hold events, training, and activities to help "bridge divides," was also announced at the summit. [TribLive]

Sidney Crosby Squashes Trade Rumors

Crosby’s agent made comments that led to a swirl of speculation around his potential trade to the Vancouver Canucks — but the Penguins team captain says he was surprised by those remarks: “This is where I want to be. I love it here.” [🔒 The Athletic]

Local Lawmakers Want Vape Shop Restrictions

City councilors are considering changing the zoning code so that vape shops have to be a certain distance from places like schools and parks — and so there's a limit on how many can open within a neighborhood or business district. [KDKA]

Dog owners can park their pups outside of Lola’s Eatery on Penn Avenue while they run in to snag a stacked bagel sammie or sweet treat — like their famous giant ube cinna roll! The brunch spot is known for its Filipino influence with dishes like lumpia and eggs with rice and spam.

Check the menu before you go; there are specials for each day of the week. Plus, they’re always releasing seasonal latte and donut flavors.

🥯 On a recent stop, I got the veggie monster sandwich on a rosemary bagel with a “sweater weather” latte, made with their housemade brown butter maple cookie syrup. SO YUM.
