September 5, 2025 · — Francesca Dabecco
Hi friends! This Sunday is national Grandparents Day, so the City Cast Pittsburgh team is talking about the best places to take (or remember) your elderly loved ones in the Burgh — and sharing some endearing stories about our own grams and paps 💛
Hear it on today’s City Cast Pittsburgh podcast.

🏈 Sunday is also the Steelers’ first regular season game. Here’s how to eat like a champ and devour every opponent!

What's CITY Talking About?
PA Expands Access to COVID-19 Vaccines
The state's Board of Pharmacy voted to revise its rules so that pharmacies can follow vaccine recommendations from health authorities besides the CDC. This comes in response to federal changes that limit eligibility for the updated COVID-19 vaccine, as well as a lack of new guidance from the CDC. [WESA]
- CVS is now offering the vaccines without a prescription across PA. [🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]

Uber Pitches Transit Funding Solution
PA still hasn’t passed a budget and transit agencies are facing a financial crisis. Uber is trying to sell lawmakers on a deal that would bring in revenue by taxing ride-hailing trips — but with a catch. The company wants their drivers to be classified as independent contractors, not employees. [🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh / SpotlightPA]

Changes Coming to Squirrel Hill Interchange
PennDOT announced plans to revamp the interchange on the Parkway East between the Greenfield Bridge and Squirrel Hill Tunnel, with the goal of improving driver and pedestrian safety. [TribLive]
- The plan includes a shared use path for walkers and cyclists along Forward and Beechwood avenues. Have thoughts? Submit a comment to PennDOT. [Bike Pittsburgh]
Oktoberfest Lands New Downtown Location
Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership is hosting its second Oktoberfest, Oct. 2-12, along Fort Duquesne Boulevard. Expect live German music, Bavarian food, Karneval games, and more. [Pittsburgh Magazine]
