🚨 Will Pgh build a ‘Cop City’?
August 5, 2025 · — Francesca Dabecco
Good morning! Anyone else excited that HBO Max’s hit medical drama “The Pitt” is back in production? We’re talking about the show’s best (and worst) local references on today’s City Cast Pittsburgh podcast.
Haven’t seen it yet? Don’t fret. The first half of our episode is spoiler free!

What's CITY Talking About?
City Council Delays Vote on ‘Cop City’
Council is postponing its decision to bring in a developer for a firefighter, EMS, and police training facility in Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar. The city acquired the former VA property in 2021 at practically no cost and is required under contract to develop the land for law enforcement and emergency management. Council will be back in session in September. [PublicSource]
A Clash Over Trash Pick Up Delays
Pittsburgh’s fleet of garbage trucks, snow plows, and emergency vehicles are in bad shape, and residents in Oakland and Polish Hill recently experienced trash pickup delays. There’s disagreement among city leaders on why the delay happened in the first place. [WTAE / WESA]

UPMC Magee Nurses Get a Union Vote
The National Labor Relations Board ruled that UPMC must permit nurses at Oakland’s Magee-Womens Hospital to hold a union election. Staff are advocating for higher wages, better staff-to-patient ratios, and more transparency from UPMC. [TribLive]

Where Is It?

Let’s play a game! Where can you find the fun vintage pieces in the photo above? 👀
🌟 Congrats to Christy D., Janis M., Olivia J., Chad G., Melinda P., and Hillary S. who correctly guessed the last “Where Is It?” challenge ⬇️

Find this “Lady Deutschtown” painting by Pittsburgh muralist Jeremy Raymer on East Ohio Street. It’s located outside of Farmer’s Daughter, a charming flower and gift shop where you can find cookbooks, plant pots of all shapes and sizes, sweet-smelling candles, unique wall prints, and much more. The neighborhood got the name “Deutschtown” because it was once home to a large population of German immigrants.
There’s a reason I took you to East Ohio Street 👀 Last week was all about “Cleveburgh” — a series about why Pittsburgh and Cleveland should consider joining forces and what makes this Ohio city the perfect spot for a weekend getaway.
But if you’re not up for visiting eastern Ohio… you should at least get some tasty food on East Ohio Street 😜
