What's CITY Talking About?

Steelers Unveil Throwback Uniform
The black and gold is going retro with alternate jerseys that nod to the Steelers' original uniform in 1933. The throwback look — a two-toned shirt with a Pittsburgh city cress and tan pants — will debut Oct. 26 against the Green Bay Packers. [Steelers]
Local Stations Respond to Public Media Cuts
90.5 WESA will lose 9% of its operating budget and WQED will lose 11% under the Trump administration's proposal to defund public media. Leaders at both stations say they're still committed to serving the region. [Inquirer / WPXI]
- In 1969, Fred Rogers testified before congress and persuaded lawmakers not to cut funds for public broadcasting. [CNN]
City Installs LED Street Lights
Pittsburgh is doing an inventory of its approximately 39,000 street lights to replace outdated ones with more energy-efficient LED bulbs. The new lights will adhere to the city’s “Dark Sky Lighting” ordinance passed in 2021, which aims to dim light pollution and improve public safety. [🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh / Pgh LED]

Buccos Fans Miss Out on Bobbleheads
After waiting hours for a special Mac Miller bobblehead before Saturday night’s game, many walked away empty handed — and resellers were listing them for as much as $2,000 on eBay. The tribute game drew the largest home crowd of the season with more than 38,000 attendees. [WPXI / New York Times]

Where Is it?

Let’s play a game! Where in Pittsburgh can you find the community garden in the photo above? 👀
🌟 Congrats to Debra G., Francie D., Emily T., Lisa, Kiirenee, Rachel N., Dorothy L., Laurie R., Megan L., Maura B., Stacy C., Anna B., Patricia M., Frances P., Lynsey B., and (my dad!) Dan D. who correctly guessed the last “Where Is It?” challenge!

These confections can be found at Bethel Bakery — a South Hills institution that’s been around for 70 years! They’re celebrating the big anniversary on Aug. 9 with made-to-order ice cream donuts and a buttercream tart flight (available for pre-order).
The bakery is known for its delicious cookies, cakes, and famous French buttercream icing, but my personal favorite is the decadent chocolate drop cookie you see in the photo above. My grandma, who had excellent taste in Pittsburgh bakeries, used to buy a whole box to keep in her fridge for when we visited.
🍪 It’s also a great spot to get treats for a classic Pittsburgh wedding cookie table. Learn the local history.

What Neighbors Love

It’s time for a Neighbor shoutout 📣 This is where City Cast Pittsburgh Neighbors get to shine a light on their fave local spots and organizations.
- 🍻 Tom U. thinks that Back Alley Brewing in Dormont is THE neighborhood spot because it “has great beer and does a lot of events in-house and around the South Hills.”
