🧱 Bucco Bricks saga continues
July 11, 2025 · — Francesca Dabecco
Hey, Francesca here! I’m back after a few days off, showing some out-of-towners around the Burgh. I’m still SO SAD that the fountain at Point State Park wasn’t on for their visit 😫
Yeah, yeah… I know it’s closed for upgrades before the NFL Draft next spring.
County Executive Sara Innamorato told us that for this year’s draft, the Green Bay airport welcomed visitors with tailgate-style games, cheese curds, and goodie bags.
What do yinz think PIT should welcome visitors with? Text or leave us a voicemail on the TREATS HOTLINE at 412-212-8893 ☎️

What's CITY Talking About?

🏡 Home Prices Are Up but Still ‘Affordable’
Redfin data shows that Pittsburgh-area home prices are increasing quickly — but the median home cost is still the third cheapest in the country at $250,000. [Axios Pittsburgh]
- 💸 Pittsburgh is lacking affordable housing units, and city officials are debating solutions, like the inclusionary zoning model adopted in Lawrenceville. City Controller Rachel Heisler isn’t convinced it could work city-wide. [🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh / Pittsburgh Business Times]

👀 City Creates More Structure for Anti-Violence Fund
City Council approved changes to Pittsburgh's Stop the Violence fund — a reserve that allocates money to city departments and community groups addressing violence, inequality, and poverty. The changes create more accountability and governance of the funds, such as using data to track causes of violence and efforts to curb them. [90.5 WESA]
✅ County Council Approves Shuman Advisory Board
County Executive Sara Innamorato’s nominees — with experience in legal, academic, and social service fields — joined an advisory board for the juvenile detention center. The facility is run by the private nonprofit Adelphoi, and under state law, the board only has the ability to advise operations; it has no enforcement power. [PublicSource / 🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]
🧱 Pirates to Replace Bucco Bricks
During renovations earlier this year, the Pirates removed thousands of commemorative bricks near the entrance to PNC Park, and fans were furious to learn some of them ended up at a recycling plant. Now, the Pirates are trying to make up for it with new bronze plaques. [TribLive]
- 🏟️ Bucco Bricks first went on sale in 1999, right before the new stadium opened, and many fans bought them to honor family members. [KDKA]

🐧 Fun fact! Yesterday, we told yinz about the new names for The Aviary’s baby penguins and their “Batman” movie connections.
Hey Pittsburgh reader Jared E. wrote in to tell us that “Nora” is also the name of Victor Fries’ (Mr. Freeze) wife — so both penguins have Batman names.
Thanks Jared!
