What's CITY Talking About?

🚗 Park in a Bike Lane? Watch Your Mail
The Pittsburgh Parking Authority is issuing tickets to car drivers who idle in bike lanes along Federal Street, Liberty Avenue, and Penn Avenue. Violations are enforced by traffic cameras, which give vehicles up to 90 seconds to move along. The tickets are then mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner. The authority also uses cameras to monitor parking lots for drivers who don’t pay the meter and vehicles blocking street sweepers. [WPXI]

- 🕯️ Pittsburgh promised last year to eliminate traffic deaths in the city. [🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]
📈 Homeless Count Rises as Camps Close
Officials shut down a homeless camp along the Southside Riverfront Trail. Everyone living at the site — about 10 people — was offered indoor shelter. At its peak, as many as 50 people lived along the trail from Color Park to the Hot Metal Bridge. Other camps were dismantled in Downtown and the North Shore earlier this year. [TribLive]
🍅 Commission Reviews New Heinz Expansion
Four buildings along Penn Avenue are already coming down to add 92,000 square feet to the Heinz History Center by January 2028. Improvements include a much larger entry space and outdoor plaza, more room for exhibits, additional classrooms and offices, and a new theater. The Pittsburgh Planning Commission is expected to vote on the design next week. [90.5 WESA]

This Smallman Street mural at De Fer Coffee & Tea reads “Atelier de Fer,” meaning “iron workshop” — a tribute to Pittsburgh’s industry roots.
We love this shop for its seasonal lattes (currently serving: blueberry vanilla), refreshing cold drinks like strawberry mango shrub, cozy vibes for friendly meetings or remote work, and the wall of goodies that make perfect gifts, from candles and chocolates to coffee beans and local art.
They also do special events like wine tastings, live music on Saturdays, and milkshake Mondays.
