✈️ PIT needs test flyers
July 2, 2025 · — Francesca Dabecco
Let’s play a game! Most of us have heard Pennsylvania referred to as the Keystone State, but did you know we have other state symbols? There are state flowers, dogs, fish, and more!
Producer Sophia Lo is quizzing both the team and our listeners on today’s City Cast Pittsburgh podcast 💡

What's CITY Talking About?
💸 Shapiro Warns Cuts in Federal Spending Bill
Gov. Josh Shapiro says that 500,000 Pennsylvanians could lose access to health care under President Donald Trump’s tax and budget reconciliation, which was passed by the Senate yesterday. The bill would make major cuts to programs like Medicaid and SNAP, affecting the most vulnerable populations, and rural hospitals that rely on Medicaid may have to close.

📉 Tax Revenue Falls in Allegheny County
County Controller Corey O’Connor says that property tax revenue declined in 2024 — the first time in 15 years — mostly due to falling property assessments on Downtown buildings. The controversial tax increase passed in December addressed immediate needs, but O’Connor says “our situation remains unsustainable.”
