What's CITY Talking About?
📣 Protesters Rally Against ICE Raids
Nearly 100 demonstrators gathered Downtown Monday, joining nationwide protests demanding the release of David Huerta — a union leader who was detained by federal agents while protesting immigration raids in Los Angeles. Protesters were joined by local unions and Mayor Ed Gainey as they chanted, “Pittsburgh is a union town. We don’t want no ICE around.” [PublicSource]
- 🚨What happens during an ICE stop or raid? Vanessa Stine, senior staff attorney at the ACLU of Pennsylvania, explains what rights immigrants have regardless of their legal status and how bystanders can help during an ICE encounter. Psst — It’s also in Spanish. [🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]
🗳️ GOP Groups Won’t Back Moreno for Mayor
Both the Pittsburgh and Allegheny County GOP committees are refusing to support Tony Moreno, the Republican nominee for Pittsburgh mayor, because of “drama and discord.” They do, however, plan to back their party's three candidates for City Council. [TribLive / 🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]

🎆 4th of July Festivities Move to North Shore
Because of construction at Point State Park, most celebrations will move to the North Shore Riverwalk, including live music, a hot air balloon, children’s activities, and a veteran-focused resource fair. Additional festivities will take place at Emerald View Park's Grandview Bandstand in Mt. Washington. Fireworks begin at 9:35 p.m. [City of Pittsburgh]
