⛲ Summer without the fountain?!

May 1, 2025 · — Francesca Dabecco

Happy May! It’s my birth month! And if it’s yours too, here’s how you can get free goodies for your birthday in Pittsburgh 🎂

We’re all about free here — free fun, free news!

Sometimes it BAFFLES me that I actually get to send this little email to thousands (!!!) of Pittsburghers every day. And it’s free because we believe in accessible local journalism.

But we need more neighbors to support us so we can keep it that way.

If you want to get me an early birthday present, I sure would appreciate it if you became a City Cast Pittsburgh Neighbor 💛

I pour so much of my heart into this newsletter every day because I LOVE helping yinz stay connected to our city and each other.

✏️ Pittsburgh Public To Draw New School Zones

PPS will develop new school attendance zones itself instead of hiring a contractor — a move that's been met with some skepticism. The district is analyzing its own data to determine which elementary schools will feed into each high school.

  • 🏫 PPS is considering a plan to close and consolidate schools but postponed the next step in the closure process after parents and school board members asked for more information. [90.5 WESA]
