Advocates and local officials, including Mayor Ed Gainey and Wilkinsburg Mayor Dontae Comans, rallied outside of the Social Security office in East Liberty — which has been targeted for possible closure by the Trump administration. ❌ Worker Safety Research Hit By Federal Layoffs

A dozen local workers for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health were laid off as a part of widespread firings at federal health agencies. NIOSH, which operates out of Bruceton Research Center in Pleasant Hills, conducts research and develops respirators to protect mine workers, first responders, and building trades. [90.5 WESA]

🚧 Market Square Makeover Begins

The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership kicked off a year-long, $15 million project to modernize the historical square. Work starts on the north half (near the Original Oyster House), and you’ll only be able to drive one way, northbound on the south half through the summer. [Pittsburgh Magazine]
