March 20, 2025 · — Francesca Dabecco

Happy Spring Equinox 🌱 I don’t know about yinz, but I’m excited to dust off my bike, do some plant shopping, and eat alfresco on Pittsburgh’s best patios!

Speaking of eating … find tasty food and drink news below 😋 ⬇️

🎢 Atlanta Company Buys Kennywood

Herschend Family Entertainment is purchasing more than 20 parks across 10 states, including Kennywood, Sandcastle, and Idlewild & SoakZone. The family-owned attractions company has a large portfolio, including Dollywood in Tennessee. [Pittsburgh Magazine]

🗳️ Council Candidates Could Get Tossed From Ballot

It’s possible that Pittsburgh voters won’t have a single competitive City Council race on the May 20 primary ballot, as three candidates face legal challenges to their nominating petitions.

⚖️ Bill Prohibiting Hair Discrimination Moves Forward

The CROWN Act, which stands for “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair,” passed the PA House 194-8 — largely thanks to Pittsburgh-based Rep. La’Tasha Mayes, who co-sponsored the bill. If it passes the Senate, Pennsylvanians would be protected from hair-related discrimination in workplaces or classrooms. [City Paper]

Hair is a part of the cultural pride of Black people … That shouldn't be repressed because an employer may not understand — or isn't willing — to make a very simple accommodation for a Black person to be able to wear their hair as it naturally grows.

Sesame Inn also has a location in Mt. Lebanon. (Francesca Dabecco / City Cast Pittsburgh)

We love to update yinz about the yummiest new places to grab a bite or bev in the Burgh! Check out what caught our eye this week 🤤

🥡 Sesame Inn Gets New Digs

The Chinese, Thai, and sushi restaurant moved from its former North Hills location to inside The Block Northway. Stop in after a day of shopping for dumplings, eggrolls, fried rice, curry, and more. We loved the Buddhist Delight, a mixed vegetable dish with garlic sauce.

🍽️ Nothingman Takes Over the Old ‘Station’

With creamy pasta dishes, meaty handhelds, and BOGO wing nights, Nothingman might be everything we need. The dinner-only restaurant fills the former Station spot on Penn Avenue in Bloomfield. We can’t wait to try their dressed up SpaghettiOs.
