What's CITY Talking About?

📚 More Pittsburghers Are Visiting the Library

❌ Divestment Question Scrapped from Pgh Ballot
The pro-Palestinian advocacy group Not On Our Dime called off its efforts to get a referendum on the primary ballot asking voters whether the city should stop doing business with companies linked to Israel. The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and the city controller filed legal challenges against the measure, and Not On Our Dime didn’t have enough valid signatures on their petition.
- ✏️ The group tried to get a similar measure on the ballot last November but withdrew after similar legal challenges. [90.5 WESA]
- 🗳️ City Council proposed its own set of ballot questions, aimed at ensuring the city isn’t forced to divest from companies. [TribLive]
🏀 Hill District Rec Center Gets A Boost
The Penguins contributed $500,000 to refurbish the Ammon Recreation Center, a hub for youth and community events in the Hill District. [Business Times]
- 🏘️ The city razed parts of the Lower Hill in the 1950s to make room for the Civic Arena (the precursor to PPG Paints). The Pens’ donation is part of an agreement to invest back into the area — and some residents are frustrated with slow progress. [📝 Hey Pittsburgh / TribLive]
