🛒 Salem’s in the Hill District To Close

After being open for only a year, Salem’s Market on Centre Avenue is pausing operations on Monday. It’s unclear if the store will return, but the Urban Redevelopment Authority says Salem’s is considering a restructure. This was the Hill District’s first grocery store in five years; it took over the former Shop’n Save that closed in 2019. [90.5 WESA / URA]

🦕 A Giant Donation for Dinos

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History got its largest gift ever — $25 million from Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin — to renovate the iconic “Dinosaurs in Their Time” exhibit. Sound familiar? The family gave $65 million to the Carnegie Science Center in 2024, and the center will be renamed after the Kamin’s later this year. [Pittsburgh Magazine]

🚂 Local Rail Bridges in Poor Condition

An engineering firm inspected 20 Norfolk Southern and feeder bridges in the Pittsburgh area and found that 11 are in poor or serious condition — but the company says its bridges are “structurally safe.” The inspector argues rail bridges need more federal oversight; politicians can easily assess the condition of highway bridges, but private companies aren’t required to disclose safety reports.
