🚨 Gainey Nominates Ragland As Next Police Chief
Christopher Ragland has been Pittsburgh’s acting chief since former Chief Larry Scirotto abruptly left to pursue his side gig, referring NCAA basketball. City Council, which still has to approve the mayor’s nomination, made it clear they wouldn’t support or fund another nationwide search. Ragland’s served with the bureau for over 30 years. [City of Pittsburgh]
- 🤝 Broken trust? Scirotto and Mayor Gainey both acknowledged making an (undisclosed) handshake deal that would’ve allowed Scirotto to serve as chief while frequently leaving town to ref for the Big Ten. Ragland was Scirotto’s pick for acting chief any time he was away. [🎧City Cast Pittsburgh]
🏫 A Big Year for Pgh School Board Elections
Five of nine Pittsburgh Public School board seats are up for election, and whoever fills them will play a critical role in shaping the district’s future as they consider school closures and consolidations.
