Where Is It?

Have you seen this building? (Francesca Dabecco / City Cast Pittsburgh)

Let’s play a game! Where in Pittsburgh can you find the “1914” sign in the photo above? 👀

🌟 Congrats to Al H. who correctly guessed the last “Where Is It?” challenge! ⬇️

The next time you go to a performance or see an art show at Kelly Strayhorn Theater, take a peek at the stone mosaic at the entrance. Production Manager J.R. Shaw says the building was originally a movie house called Regent Theater, built in 1914. (Hey, there’s that year again!) Back then, this mosaic design sat right next to the box office and below a two-story light up marque. Regent Theater wasn’t the first “picture house” in Pittsburgh, but it was still one of the earliest in the country, Shaw says.

📸 I’m excited for Njaimeh Njie’s “Lifting Liberty” exhibit on the legacy of Black cultural spaces in East Liberty starting Feb. 27.
