🚫 Investor Pushes to End US Steel, Nippon Deal

An Ohio-based investment firm wants U.S. Steel to drop its current leadership and efforts to save the Nippon Steel deal. Ancora Holdings Group owns a small stake in the company (0.18%) and nominated nine new board members for election at the next shareholder meeting.

  • Earlier this month, Nippon and U.S. Steel filed a federal lawsuit challenging Biden’s decision to block the $15 billion acquisition for national security reasons. They also filed a separate lawsuit against a rival steelmaker and the head of United Steelworkers union. [Associated Press / 🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]

🔋 Trump Curbs Green Energy in PA

Nearly 100,000 Pennsylvanians now work in the clean energy sector, making us one of the top states for clean energy jobs. But some of that momentum could stall under the Trump administration, including a project to put in 150 EV charging stations across the state. [Allegheny Front / Union Progress]

🏘️ City To Vote on Affordable Housing Bills

Pittsburgh’s City Planning Commission is scheduled to vote on two opposing inclusionary zoning bills today that could impact our city’s approach to future development.

  • Does IZ actually work? This development rule, requiring builders to set aside units for low-income residents, is already happening in Lawrenceville — and leaders say it has made the neighborhood more livable. [🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]

Want to step into Pittsburgh’s past? Clayton, the 1860s chateau-style mansion in Point Breeze owned by industrialist Henry Clay Frick, has been diligently preserved and is open for public tours. Inside, you’ll find a glamorous dining room set for influential guests and an office where wealthy industrialists talked business and played poker — plus extra context about what was happening to workers during this time.

🍀 The balustrade on the exterior of the mansion is decorated with a quatrefoil (or four-leaf clover design), often representing good fortune. See it for yourself!
