🏘️ Can Pgh become more livable?

January 14, 2025 · — Francesca Dabecco

Good morning, neighbor! That is, if you like change. The law firm Pond Lehockey is replacing that enormous Iron City sign on Mt. Washington.

I bet I.C. will be back! The brewery has a long history of advertising there, so much so that it’s sometimes called Pittsburgh’s “Hollywood Sign.” Did you know that it actually used to glow? ✨

💰 Cleveland-Cliffs, Nucor To Bid on US Steel

President Biden blocked the sale of U.S. Steel to Japan’s Nippon Steel, and now rival steelmaker Cleveland-Cliffs plans to make an all-cash offer in partnership with Nucor. The full amount hasn’t been announced yet. Cleveland-Cliffs would then sell off U.S. Steel to Nucor, based in North Carolina. [📝 Hey Pittsburgh / CNBC]

You’ve probably admired this colorful mosaic in Garfield a hundred times, but have you ever been inside? The arts and sustainability hub is in honor of the German-born Pittsburgh artist Irma Freeman, who spent most of her life in poverty and created vibrant paintings up until her death at age 90 in 1994. The “IF” stands for Freeman’s initials, as well as the “belief that if we try, it is possible to overcome any obstacle and achieve greatness.”
