📈 31,000 Kids Experienced School Shootings in 2024
Thirteen people have been killed in school shootings this year — including a student and teacher who were shot in Madison, WI on Monday — and students across 21 states have been affected. [Washington Post]
- But this number could be higher. There currently isn’t a federal definition of what’s considered a school shooting, and data collections vary on whether they include non-injury incidents — like what happened outside of Perry Traditional Academy this week. [Education Week / 90.5 WESA]

🚑 Biden to Sign HEARTS Act Supported by Damar Hamlin
President Joe Biden is expected to sign a bill championed by McKees Rocks native and NFL star Damar Hamlin that’ll put more AEDs in schools and bolster CPR training. An AED, which restores the heart’s regular rhythm, helped to save Hamlin’s life when he went into cardiac arrest during a game in Cincinnati two years ago. [KDKA]
