🚫 Trump Pledges to Block US Steel Sale

President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his opposition to the proposed $15 billion sale of U.S. Steel to Japan-based Nippon Steel and said he’ll use tax incentives and tariffs to boost the American steelmaker. President Biden and the United Steelworkers Union also oppose the sale, but some local steelworkers are pleased with Nippon’s commitments to invest in the company and disappointed because Trump said he’d take another look at the deal after the election. 🕳️ Why Do Sinkholes Happen Here?

Authorities are searching for a missing woman in Unity Township and worry she might’ve been swallowed by a sinkhole while searching for her cat. Sinkholes are common in Pennsylvania’s “karst” terrain, as rock and limestone below the surface can be naturally dissolved by groundwater. [Associated Press / USGS]

🗓️ City Councilwoman To Retire

Theresa Kail-Smith announced she will retire after her term ends in January 2026. She has served District 2 (which includes neighborhoods in the south and west of the city) since she was elected in 2009 and held various roles: City Council President and chair of the Public Works, Citiparks, and Public Safety committees, among others.
