🗳️When will election results come in?
November 5, 2024 · — Francesca Dabecco
It’s Election Day — time to find your polling place and cast your ballot! Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you’re in line at closing time, you still get to vote. No exceptions! And here’s what to do if you forgot to mail your ballot.
Isn’t it stressful living in a swing state? 😅 We have a special City Cast Pittsburgh podcast today with our colleagues in other battleground states who are also feeling the heat. ⬇️

What's CITY Talking About?

🇺🇸 Four Cities That Could Decide the Election
In a special Election Day episode, City Cast CEO David Plotz is talking to and about swing state cities: Madison, Philly, Las Vegas, and us, Pittsburgh! The cross-country crew is sharing how their cities prepare for the election, when results could be tallied, and how states will deal with the aftermath — including possible election challenges. ✅ Imperfect Mail Ballots Will Still Be Counted
The state Supreme Court rejected an emergency appeal by Republicans that would have thrown away thousands of ballots in Pennsylvania. The court ruled that the provisional ballots, which may have been rejected for signature or date errors, must be counted. [Associated Press]
📣 Debunking Election Misinformation
Conspiracy theories about the 2020 election being stolen, spread by former President Donald Trump and his allies, have fueled more election misinformation — like rigged voting machines, fake voter registration, and noncitizen voting. You can find the facts here. [Washington Post / SpotlightPA]
- FYI: Fraud is basically impossible with PA's decentralized voting systems, which differ slightly county to county. [SpotlightPA]
🗳️ What Happens To My Ballot After It's Cast?
- Whether your vote is cast on a physical ballot or machine, it will be recorded and transported to a regional reporting center, like our election warehouse on the North Side.
- Allegheny County is expecting more than 200,000 mail-in ballots. Those votes will be among the first to show up on the county’s election results website. Look for updates every 15 minutes or so, starting around 9 p.m.
- The county’s preliminary results should be totaled by midnight, thanks to investments in new ballot sorting machines and an effort by workers to count everything before heading home for the night... erm, morning. Here’s how your ballots were “cured.”
- Official election results will be certified by the state in December. [🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]

Pittsburgh Opera presents an adulterous double feature
Pittsburgh Opera presents an adulterous double feature not seen here since 1996.
Jealousy, two-timing, and revenge unite the back-to-back tragedies of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci. Possessiveness, machismo, and rage fuel their bloody conclusions.
Enjoy two amazing operas on the same night. November 9th-17th.

Where Is It?

Let’s play a game! Where in the city can you find this mural of a Pittsburgh photographer? 👀
🌟 Congrats to Gigi G., Jamie P., Bob S., Natalie C., D.N., Cara S., James M., Katie L., Harrison K., Andrew D., Melissa M., Lori S., Jordan B., and Gloria G. who correctly guessed the last “Where Is It?” challenge! ⬇️

I’ve got good news and bad news. The bummer is that I took this photo at The Government Center Outpost, a record shop in Dormont, right before we learned it's closing. The upside is that you can still shop their collection at the East Allegheny location, which recently welcomed a new in-house coffee bar, Kinder Being Cafe.
