💸 A Preview of PPS’s 2025 Budget

Pittsburgh Public Schools officials are working on a $735.9 million budget proposal — a 2.64% increase from 2024’s budget — but it doesn’t account for possible school closures. The budget could shrink if schools and staff are cut. Consultants will present their final closure recommendations on Tuesday, but the school board hasn’t yet set a date to vote on the plan. 📣 Western Psych Nurses Authorize Strike

Nurses at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital unanimously voted to authorize a strike, citing concerns about low staffing, high turnover, and closed beds. The nurse’s union has been negotiating a contract with UPMC since August; their previous contract expired on September 30. [Union Progress]

🚗 New Women-Only Rideshare Company

The members-only Periwinkle Ladies Travel Club aims to make women feel safer while ridesharing. The company, launching Oct. 12, covers a 15-mile radius around Point State Park. [KDKA]
