What's CITY Talking About?
Hydrogen Gets a Big Boost
The federal government is giving almost $30 million to start building a hydrogen hub in our region. Twelve companies, including Pittsburgh-based EQT, will create hydrogen from natural gas and use it for everything from fueling buses to heating homes. [Allegheny Front]
- The Department of Energy is funding seven hydrogen hubs across the country. Ours will span Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia.
- State lawmakers say hydrogen is a cleaner energy source than fossil fuels and will help address climate change, but some environmental advocates have concerns. We break it all down on the City Cast Pittsburgh podcast. [City Cast Pittsburgh 🎧]

How Many PA Schools Have Rifle Teams?
Though none of the established WPIAL teams included the shooter at the Butler Trump rally, the impact of regional rifle teams is coming into question: do school-based shooting activities provide pathways for future Olympic athletes, or are they exposing young people to guns without proper resources? Now that the first phase of an Appalachian hub is kicking off, we’re revisiting our episode from last fall about the potential and pitfalls of these huge projects.
