Hello Pittsburgh! Summer is ticking on and I’m realizing how little I’ve accomplished from my extensive activity list. To anyone else following City Cast Pittsburgh’s ultimate summer bucket list, want to help me narrow it down?

What's CITY Talking About?

Ongoing Investigations Into Trump Shooting

Two local law enforcement officers left their post to search for the man who later shot at former president Donald Trump during his Butler County rally. At a congressional committee hearing earlier this week, the head of Pennsylvania State Police testified that officers with the Butler County Emergency Services Unit spotted a man acting suspiciously and left to look for him; he eventually climbed onto the roof of a building adjacent to their post and opened fire. Is Pittsburgh’s ‘Jock Tax’ Unconstitutional?

The city’s so-called “jock tax” levies a 3% fee on out-of-town performers and athletes that use public spaces like stadiums. The Commonwealth Court ruled in January that the tax is unconstitutional because it treats people who live outside Pittsburgh differently than residents, but Mayor Ed Gainey’s office filed an appeal. Now, the debate is headed to PA’s Supreme Court. [Penn Capital-Star]

Embrace Your Inner Gearhead

Ragtime Racers — a traveling group that shows off cars built in the 1920s or earlier — are coming to our city for the first time for the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. Many of their cars were previously housed in museums or private collections and range up to $1 million in value; one has an aircraft engine from World War I. See them live on August 3rd and 4th — you can even make a donation to sit in the passenger seat! [TribLive]

  • 🏎️ Vroom vroom. Check out a 2.8-mile purpose-built track this week at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex for the Historics at Pitt Race, featuring cars from the 60s and early 70s. Admission is $25 per day online and $30 at the gate; kids under 12 are free.
