What's CITY Talking About?
PA Gov on the Presidential Ticket?
President Joe Biden has officially withdrawn from the 2024 election, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is high on the list of potential picks for vice president. Biden fundraisers and allies say Shapiro is one of several people under consideration, and that his connection to a critical swing state could make him a good fit for the ticket. [Philadelphia Inquirer]
- 🗳️ Shapiro endorsed Kamala Harris for President on Sunday, stating that “the best path forward for the Democratic Party is to quickly unite behind Vice President Harris and refocus on winning.” [WPXI]
Casino Employees Rally Against Indoor Smoking
Employees at Rivers Casino are urging the state to protect workers’ health and pass legislation to ban smoking and vaping in establishments — such as casinos and day care centers in private homes — not included in Pennsylvania’s 2008 Clean Indoor Air Act. Indoor smoking in private clubs and cigar bars would not be affected. [Pittsburgh Union Progress]

Sidney Crosby Wants to Stay a Penguin
The celebrated Pens captain and three-time Stanley Cup winner is negotiating a contract extension to be a Penguin for life, insiders say. While the details aren’t public yet, early reports suggest the new contract could be a three-year deal for about $10 million per season. [The Athletic 🔒]

Why is Pittsburgh Spelled With an H?
At its inception, Pittsburgh was named for British earl and Prime Minister William Pitt. Most of us know that. But how we got, lost, and eventually reclaimed the consistent use of our beloved H is up for debate. Historian and author Virginia Montanez is here to talk about the basic rules of how we spell things (really), why Pittsburgh was so bad at it (shocking), and how newspapermen and intellectuals made everything worse (¯\_(ツ)_/¯).

Until tomorrow, Pittsburgh!
