Dairy Workers Prep For Bird Flu
Dairy farmers in PA are trying to keep themselves, their cows, and customers from the still-low risk of bird flu. Though the virus has not yet been detected in PA, new research shows it can live on dairy equipment for an hour. [The Allegheny Front]

How Pgh is Spending Its Opioid Money
Pittsburgh is spending most of the money from a legal settlement with opioid manufacturers and distributors on a diversion program. The goal is to redirect people facing low-level charges away from jail and into treatment. About half of the funds have gone to program expenses, including pay for 3 full-time employees, a vehicle for case managers, training, and medical supplies. [90.5 WESA]
Mandatory Chaperones for Public Pools
A new county policy requires pool-goers 17 years and younger to be accompanied by an adult (21 years+) with a valid photo ID. Parents can bring all of their children but non-parents can only escort 4 minors, and if a child is banned then their chaperone will be, too. [Allegheny County]
- 🏊 It’s not just county pools. Earlier this summer, the city enacted a chaperone policy at the Highland Park pool. A city spokesperson said unaccompanied children were “causing some concerns about the guards’ ability to focus.” [TribLive]
