🍕 Is Mineo’s the world’s best pizza?
July 12, 2024 · – Megan Harris
Happy Friday, yinz. And happy birthday week to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The organization turned 91 years young!

What's CITY Talking About?
Politicos Make Pgh Pit Stops
- Former President Donald Trump will be at the Butler County Farm Show on Saturday; organizers say they expect to sell around 15,000 tickets. Trump took 65 percent of the vote there in 2016 and 2020. The Republican National Convention kicks off in Milwaukee on July 15. [KDKA]
- Current First Lady Jill Biden is also coming to tahn. She’s set to arrive at PIT around 4 p.m. for a dinner that evening with the Italian Sons and Daughters of America in Pittsburgh. She was last here for Pittsburgh’s Pride parade. [TribLive]
‘Tim McNulty Press Room’
City Council is considering an official name for its press room in Pittsburgh’s City-County Building in honor of Tim McNulty, a former reporter who later served as spokesman for Mayor Bill Peduto and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was a caring human and public servant (we’ll miss you, Tim 💛) who died last week after a long cancer fight. He was 54. [TribLive]
- Bueller? Buuueller? His sister, Becky Randall, wrote a funny, touching essay about who he was and how he lived.
NYT Readers Really Love Mineo’s
The New York Times recently shared a lengthy list of their writers’ favorite pizza places in the U.S., and predictably, Pittsburgh was miffed that we weren’t represented. In a second take, NYT pulled from its comment section and included Squirrel Hill’s beloved Mineo’s among its readers’ 15 favorites from around the globe. No word yet on how Aiello’s is taking the news. [NY Times]

🍣 OTARU Japanese
OTARU in Mt. Washington is serving up boxes of chef selections and, if you’re feeling interactive, handroll sets you make yourself. They’ve also got “Specialty Sips” for sitting back and enjoying the earth-toned ambiance and view of the city.
🐝 Queen Beans Cafe
In the center of Coraopolis, Queen Beans Cafe is bright and spacious, and even offers a drive-thru if you’re in a rush. They’ve got sweet rolls and great bagel options, and also offer custom sugar cookies and gourmet variety boxes for your next cookie table.
🍔 PileZ
Sometimes you simply require a garbage plate. PileZ in Oakland delivers on the pile o’ food promise — you can even design your own pile of ingredients — as well as serving up “sandoz” of chicken sliders and the “only burger” if you’re in the mood for something more basic.

Liberty Bells, Cannabis Testing & Mineo’s Makes the NY Times
If you have a medical cannabis card, you could become part of a protected class here in Pittsburgh. Our state has a new license plate but not everybody loves it. And a local pizza place made it on a New York Times “best of” list, but not in the way you might think. Plus, some more news we’re watching this week.

Have a great weekend everyone!
