What's CITY Talking About?

Walking & Biking Paths Get a Boost
Bellevue, Swissvale, Wilkinsburg, and Vandergrift will all share in a $255,000 state WalkWorks grant to improve walking and biking trails, encourage physical activity, and consider improvements to transit access, road safety, and public health outcomes. [PA Pressroom]

The Latest on Innamorato’s 500 in 500 Plan
Ed Nusser, the county’s new director of housing strategy, says County Executive Sara Innamorato’s goal to find 500 parcels in 500 days to help people exit homelessness is “both bold and ambitious, but also achievable.” He says a Stanton Heights facility is already in the works, plus other measures like creating a Housing Advisory Committee to work with tenants and landlords, helping communities update their zoning codes, and expanding a program that helps tenants facing eviction. Solar Makeover for ‘Swisshelm Slags’
Good news for all yinz Swisshelm Park people who’ve been taking your mental health walks through the slag heap — the URA received a $2 million Brownfields Cleanup Grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to help remediate 22 acres and eventually install solar panels along its south-facing hills. Slag is a toxic byproduct from steel manufacturing. The project is expected to begin next year. [NEXTpittsburgh]
