⚾ Josh Gibson now best in MLB
June 12, 2024 · — Kevin Gavin
It’s a good morning for Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, but maybe not for some fans 👀 Tomlin has famously “never had a losing season,” but he also hasn’t won a playoff game in seven years. The Steelers ended speculation about his future by signing the long-serving head coach to a three-year contract extension through the 2027 season. Tomlin is in his 18th year, trailing only the late Chuck Noll, who led the team for 23 years.

What's CITY Talking About?

Pittsburgh-based Triangle Tech announced it’s closing up shop because of residual effects of the pandemic, changing industry needs, and declining enrollment. The school provided training in HVAC, electrical, welding, and carpentry at its six Pennsylvania locations. A spokesperson said they will honor their commitment to current students through June 2025. Schools Enlist Public Support for Equitable Funding
Pittsburgh Public Schools and other education advocates want Pennsylvanians to contact state lawmakers today, June 12, to urge them to pass a long-term proposal to fund schools more fairly. Parents, students, and teachers agree there’s a funding gap between higher and lower income school districts, but there’s less consensus about how to solve it. [PA Schools Work]
- 🎒 What’s going on? In a 107-94 vote, the Democratic-controlled state House approved legislation that would gradually boost state support by $7 billion annually. The proposal now goes to the Republican-controlled state Senate. [Associated Press]
- 💰 Get redd up: A Commonwealth Court judge ruled last year that Pennsylvania’s school funding formula is unconstitutional and must be overhauled. [🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]
Hearing for Palestinian Supporters
Two undergrad students, one from the University of Pittsburgh and another from Carnegie Mellon University, face a preliminary hearing in municipal court this week for trespassing charges. Fellow protestors are hoping people come to speak in support of the students. [@pittapartheiddivest]
- 🪧 This all stems from April when the students participated in an anti-war protest and encampment during and after university commencements. Students are still urging their schools to end investments in Israel. [TribLive]

The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is offering a myriad of programs for kids and adults, with everything from music and movies to forest bathing and mushroom foraging.
