Strollers & Wheelchairs Vie for Space on Buses

Riders who use wheelchairs say open strollers are taking their designated spots on PRT buses. Advocates for wheelchair users say drivers sometimes refuse to allow them to board because there is no safe space for them. Prior to 2022 riders with small children had to fold up strollers and stow them. CEO Katharine Kelleman says they’ll hold public hearings to explore solutions. [Pittsburgh Union Progress]

Fresh Fish Flying to PGH

The new Pittsburgh to Reykjavik flights that began this month are soon expected to have unique travelers, including international cargo. An Icelandair spokesman says fish is that country’s main product and “[Pittsburgh] is going to be a very good opportunity for us to fill the plane with fish.” [Blue Sky News]

If you wish you could experience the mythical, mystical aesthetic of Halloween year-round, Allentown is your spot. The south Pittsburgh neighborhood has found its niche as a “goth” or “metal” meeting place with oddity shops, a themed cafe, and more curiosities along its business district.

1 Thing To Know

The neighborhood once operated five inclines, and in 1888, it was the first site west of the Allegheny Mountains to run an electric streetcar. You can still see the trolley lines on Warrington Avenue.

Go, See, Do!

☕ The former Black Forge Coffee House is now Grim Wizard Coffee, featuring the same heavy jams and dark coffee.

🔮 The Weeping Glass is an “oddities and curiosities” store with unusual gifts, antiques, books, candles, and more.

🌙 Exercise among the misfits at Death Comes Lifting, featuring strength training, yoga, Muay Thai, and bootcamp classes.

🍸 Dr. Tumblety’s is a “time-inspired specialty shop” that also has a secret speakeasy, The Storyville Lounge, behind a hidden door.
