What's CITY Talking About?

Pittsburgh’s Wettest Year
Five confirmed tornadoes touched down around Pittsburgh over the weekend, marking a record-breaking 14 tornadoes this month — the previous high of 11 was set in 1985. No serious injuries were reported over the weekend, but the region is experiencing its wettest start to the year with 22.67 inches of precipitation, well above the average. [Patch]

Monroeville’s New Greenway
Allegheny Land Trust has acquired 95 acres in Monroeville to form Gateway Woods, a 396-acre greenway linking Monroeville Community Park to Sugar Camp Park and Mosside Slopes Conservation Area. Officials say the greenway will boost outdoor recreation, environmental education, and improve air quality — the area sequesters 381,000 pounds of CO2 annually. [NEXTPittsburgh]
Locked Out of Health Care
Understaffing and organizational inefficiencies at Allegheny County Jail often lead to delays in medical care for incarcerated individuals, some of whom report that setbacks began from the moment they needed a diagnosis. Former jail employees also said sending patients out for treatment was “frowned upon” and led to further delay in care. Despite constitutional rights to health care, some patients were left to wait until their release to get help. [PublicSource]
