🛌 Stay overnight at Gettysburg Battlefield
May 20, 2024 · — Adrian González
Good morning! Whether you’ve already heard the story or not, it’s always fun when actor Ed O’Neill talks about the time he got cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers and had a recurring dream about it for decades.

What's CITY Talking About?

A Steelers Christmas
The Steelers’ 2024 schedule is here and it features four prime-time games, including a Christmas Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs that will stream on Netflix (shoutout Swifties and Kelce-s?). This is the second year in a row that the team will play on Christmas, which could be a good sign for our bid to host the NFL Draft. [🔒 Pittsburgh Business Times, WXPI]
Potential Delays During Rail Updates
Pittsburgh Regional Transit has begun its rail replacement project at Willow Station. Inbound rail work will last through May 31, and outbound rails will be replaced between then and June 16, which could cause delays of up to 40 minutes. The project is part of a five-year, $150 million rehab effort that includes several light-rail locations, along with the Panhandle Bridge. [WPXI]
Gettysburg Sleepover
The National Park Service announced that starting May 24, visitors can stay overnight in two historic homes on the Gettysburg Battlefield as part of a three-year pilot program. The Bushman and Slyder houses, hosts of Civil War battles on July 2, 1863, have been renovated with modern amenities. Two other homes will be added to the program once they’re renovated. [90.5 WESA]
The Best Neighborhood for Goths
The resurgence of Allentown in the past ten years, backed by local small business owners and community leaders, has attracted a whole crew of misfits. It might be hard to see at first, but there are many reasons why Allentown has become a destination for goths. [🎧 City Cast Pittsburgh]

Why Is Allentown So Goth?
Over the last decade, Allentown has been reborn thanks to generous support from fellow small business leaders and neighbors eager to see their main street come back to life. And the new folks? They’ve got a decidedly different way of looking at the world. Today we’re talking about the goth kids, the misfits, and the metalheads, and why they say the hilltop has been the perfect place to set up shop.

Thanks for reading! I’ve recently been nursing a leg injury that’s reminded me of the importance of accessibility, so I’ll leave you with this lovely essay about a Yinzer’s changing perspective on navigating Pittsburgh’s many stairs.
Have a good week!
