What's CITY Talking About?
Pro-Palestinian Protesters March to Fetterman’s Office

Former Steelers QB Named in Stormy Daniels Testimony
Ben Roethlisberger was mentioned this week in former President Donald Trump’s election interference, aka hush money, trial. Daniels testified that after she had sex with Trump in 2006, she saw him at a nightclub with Roethlisberger and tried on the Pittsburgher’s Super Bowl ring. In her 2018 book, she wrote that Big Ben "terrified" her on a walk back to her hotel room, which Trump had initiated. According to Daniels, Roethlisberger asked for a "good night kiss," and when she declined, he continued pushing on her door, saying "come on," and knocking. [KDKA-TV]
Tax Breaks for Developers & Construction Downtown
Councilmembers unanimously approved new tax breaks for developers who convert empty offices into housing or commercial space. Developers will get different levels of relief based on factors like how many jobs they provide or the affordability of the new housing units. The tax break can last six to 10 years. [TribLIVE]
- 🏗️ Buildings fall, bocce courts rise: Four historic buildings along Market Street and First Avenue are being demolished over the next few weeks, despite pleas from preservation groups. The courts should be in place by the fall. [KDKA-TV]
The Allegheny River Was Once Split in Three
Pittsburgh is a city of hills, and flat land is rare — except for the East End. Pitt professor Charles Jones explains that’s because an arc of flat land in the East End is actually an ancient river bed where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers once flowed, and where the Allegheny was split into three different rivers millions of years ago. Check out this deep dive into how glaciers of the last ice age — and later, urbanization — carved up Pittsburgh. [90.5 WESA]
