Pride Moves Location After ‘Unexpected Denial’

Pittsburgh Pride is moving to Allegheny Commons on the North Side after organizers say the state denied them access to Point State Park. In a statement to KDKA-TV, organizers said they received “unexpected and stringent requirements” that are “not typically imposed on similar festivals.” A spokesperson for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, which runs the park, says officials didn’t deny access and that Pittsburgh Pride never submitted a completed application to use the space. PA Distributing $75M for School Repairs

The state Department of Education is accepting applications for a grant program to fund environmental facility repairs. Schools can receive up to $10 million each to address concerns like mold, and Pennsylvania has hundreds of aging school buildings. The state is accepting applications through June 30, and will prioritize projects to address elevated lead levels and remove asbestos or other environmental hazards. [90.5 WESA]

CMU Developing Drones to Fight Wildfires

Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute are designing autonomous drones that could help firefighters see through dense smoke to reconstruct any structures or vegetation and fly lower than current, military-grade drones. The team began developing the drones after last summer’s record-breaking wildfires across the Northern Hemisphere. [KDKA-TV]
