Pipeline Spills, Whistleblowing & Why Shell is Facing Criminal Charges

State investigators say Shell knowingly spilled thousands of gallons of drilling mud in three Pennsylvania counties over two years, leading to hazardous chemicals getting into wetlands and ground water. Shell calls the spills “controlled” or “managed,” but state investigators say those aren’t real words — not legally, and not according to their permits or the Clean Streams Law. The Allegheny Front’s Reid Frazier explains why whistleblowers came forward, what the Attorney General’s office found, and how new criminal charges could play out in court.

Have a great week!
