🥒🏓 Pickleball takes the Wheel Mill
April 17, 2024
Good morning, neighbor! President Biden is expected to be in the Burgh today. The last time he stopped here was when the Fern Hollow Bridge collapsed 🙀
ICYMI: Listen to yesterday’s PA primary guide on the City Cast Pittsburgh podcast. The polls are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. 🗳️

What's CITY Talking About?
What’s Happening to the Wheel Mill?
The 80,000-square-foot indoor bike park in Homewood closed last month because of economic troubles following the pandemic, but it will soon live on as a space for pickleball courts. Frequent users of the park volunteered to save and store the ramps until they can find another building. [90.5 WESA]
- 🚲 So sad! The biking community will miss the Wheel Mill for welcoming all ages and skill levels and its special clinic sessions like Ride Like A Girl. ⬅️ Follow their page for regional events.
Crews Find Missing Barge
The U.S. Coast Guard used sonar tech to locate the missing barge that sank in the Ohio River — one of 26 that broke loose and floated away over the weekend. A section of the river is closed for maritime traffic as they recover it. The remaining barges are under control, and officials are investigating how they got loose in the first place. [TribLIVE]
Braddock Church to Become Apartments
The historic First Presbyterian Church, built in 1893, is being turned into eight apartments: six for low-income tenants and two at market rate. Officials from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development — who provided historic preservation tax credits for the work — got a progress tour of the $2.9 million project, led by the Mon Valley Initiative.
